Fat isnt unhealthy though. Carb stores (muscle glycogen) in the muscles are initially depleted, as is liver glycogen - After which bodyfat is burned. As far as a diet for fat loss is concerned, its far superior to regular diets.
you tell that to your blocked aorta! a diet high in fat is also high in cholesterol, an thats what causes small injuries in the vessel walls to grow into larger problems... an excess fat IS unhealthy! jus look at the harvard alumi an you'll see the 'best' fat loss diet is regular exercise... an atkins diet reduces mass by reducing water retention too, so as soon as you go off it that goes back on too... a change in lifestyle works much better than fad diets...
Dietary cholesterol is being proven to have nothing to do with the amount of cholesterol in your body - rather, its being shown as time goes by that its all synthesised by your body in reaction to unhealthy diets coupled with a sedentary lifestyle. Inuit eskimo's eat a diet consisting solely of fats and meat, and they are a much healthier people than us. The old "fat is evil" argument is old hat and flawed. Ill agree though - exercise and a healthy active lifestyle is the key.
best way to lose weight is run till you're sick, three times a week. and when i say sick, i mean you spew so hard it hurts.
ok so dietary cholesterol isn't the be all an end all of cholesterol in the body, but most studies that say they are not related at all are fundementally flawed in the respect that they do not look into the confounding variables to a significant extent. (well the ones i've seen anyways) as we have not substantially looked at how the 2 (sed lifestyle and diet) interact then we cannot say one way or the other (from a scientific point of view anyways) and you cannot compare inuit's bodies and diets accurately to ourselves as they will have evolved to the lifestyle that suits their habits, as will we have... and so no singnificant comparisons can be made either way. fat is not evil tho, and it does play a part in a healthy lifestyle, but foods that are high in fat usually contain high amount of other chemicals that are bad for the body in excess amounts, (ie sodium chloride) and lack essential vitamins and minerals - like the atkins diet which cannot provide suficient amounts of non lipid soluble vitamins and minerals to the body.
Good response.... What i will say though is that the Atkins diet was the worst thing that could ever happen to the morons and other idiots of the world who know nothing about what they do to their bodies and what effects/implications of what they shove down their throat are. The issue with vitamins and minerals is quite valid, and although i disagree about disregarding the inuit's as an example was somewhat hasty - Its a valid thing to do if we want to disuade the less educated among us from this diet. Ive spoken to a few people about the Atkins diet, and those who have done it generally have no clue whats going on, or how it works - they just refer to it as "that diet where......." For those people - its a bad idea.
