    Houses are selling very quickly. Most are gone inside 2 months.

    yeah.....my dad thought it was ok but theres damp in the main bewdrrom & it theres a crack in the ceiling! :(

    I could'nt be arsed to read all this thread. but as far as i'm aware prices will continue to rocket as there is'nt enough houses for people to live in!!! reguardless of what the gouvernment do they can't controll the situation as its outa there hands!!

    Just because you have control... doesnt mean you know how to use it properly - which is precisely what this pile of crap government has done - they've cocked the economy up.

    course they don't divvy :p same as they have limited control over anything else that is subject to markety forces..... remember ERM and black wednesday??

    house prices are "controlled" by laws of supply & demand, so inflate/deflate accordinigly.

    Government has no direct control at all.... way ppl are talking you'd think it was like turning a tap on or off. The government sets inflation targets for the Bank of England who in turn set interest rates to try to hit those targets. All the govt can do is artificially fiddle with supply & demand by adjusting taxes and so on

    Stamp duty... put that up to 50% and you've controlled the housing market.

    Stupidly excessive example but this is ONE of the ways the government has control.
