Fraud Warning I've just had a call from Barclays Fraud Protection. To my disbelief, someone in a Las Vegas Womens Medical Centre has all of my card details, including my expiry date and 3 digit security number. -At 10:14 this morning they tried to rinse nearly £6,000 out of my account which the bank rejected purely because I never have that much money nor do I withdraw that much. -At 10:15 they tried nearly £3000, to see if that would work - Barclays rejected it again. -Again at 10:15 they tried to take nearly £600 as a last ditch attempt but that was rejected too by the bank. Rossy was just saying to me last night there was an article in the paper about people putting scanning machines onto ATMs in the Cramlington and Whitley bay area. It is also possible that the information was retrieved via an internet order, but I've not used online ordering in a long time. If I was a 'rich' person, that money would have actually left my account - that's how legit the order seemed. If they'd asked for £50, I would be at a loss right now. I don't know for sure when the details were taken, but be as careful as you can. :computer:
Barclays told me a safer way of withdrawing money is to use Cashback from shops like Safeways/Asda etc rather than 'outdoor' holes in the wall which are less secure. Katie/bracken etc.. dont withdraw money in Whitley bay because some machines have had hacking equipment attached. Go to a shop
I live in Whitley Bay as well no doubt someone has my details! Hopefully not somebody in a bloody medial centre trying to withdraw 9K
Re: Fraud Warning Try not to worry too much about it. It happens more than u think! Basically though u are totally covered and will ALWAYS get ur money back almost straight away from your bank/card issuer. If they then prove it wasnt fraud (i.e u tried to scam them) they obviously take it back. There's a million and one ways someone could have got your details. YOu can never be 100% secure. Best thing to do is not worry too much, just be sensible
Barclays are very good at checking when any big transactions are made on your card. They've rang me a few times - sadly I had actually spent it myself. Its also worthwhile just to check your credit card online as often as possible (if you can - I know you can with Barclays). That way you can see your recent transactions almost as soon as they happen instead of waiting for your bill.
Id love to see them try and take something out of my account its currently -£1998.02 I just tried to get some out myself
Honestly couldnt tell you mate Im pants with money, my mams took hold of my credit card and shes paying my other overdraft charges. I need to sort it out
