    bear scares lad to death

AN AMERICAN schoolboy was literally scared to death after coming face to face with a bear.

Thirteen-year-old Antonio Hansell, from Boston, collapsed and died after running from the beast during a hiking trip.

He and a counsellor from Camp Hale in New Hampshire bumped into the bear twice during their six-mile trek.

Terrified Antonio said he was so scared he did not want to finish the walk and complained of breathing problems before dropping dead.

The lad - who was not thought to have any medical problems - was staying at the camp for underprivileged kids 100 miles north of Boston.

His single mum Erick Charles was said to be in deep shock after hearing the news.

New Hampshire is home to more than 4,000 black bears which naturally avoid humans.

Fish and Game biologist Rob Calvert said the last time a bear killed somebody in the area was in 1784.
