This is all yet another sensationalist piece of crap in the media which gives councils an opportunity to screw more money out of local business.

Marshals to try and keep order at chucking out time? Fines and extra charges for pubs/bars/etc to cut down on binge drinking and happy hours, etc? What a load of fucking bollocks. It's the people who have no sense of responsibility that they drink too much, start fights, shit themselves, shit on someone else, whatever, that should get the fines. And put on rehab too. Or put down, depending how extreme you are.

    Grr.

    :)

It makes sense, theres a stupid culture in this country about drinking which is why we dont have 24 hour licences. If we ever want to be able to see the day when we can get a drink at 4am we need to be educated about it and look at our peers in the EU as an example.

yes but do u not think alot of binge drinking is caused by limited opening hours?

Its swings and roundabouts though. If we had later lisences then we may have a bigger problem.

    theres no winners.

I don't see the problem with all this binge drinking, at the end of the day the goverment probably earns a fortune in the taxing of booze so whats their problem!

yeah that may be the case, the problem comes down to the fact that people dont go out for a drink, people go out to get pissed!

that 'drunk and dangerous' program highlighted it - over stretched police forces trying to cope with bevvied up ejits starting fights, causing damage when they should be nicking burgulars and car theives in the suburbs.

it's the restricted licensing laws that are causing problems - everyone is told to stop drinking at 11 then booted onto the streets. of course there's going to be bother.

Well if they lower the time people get kicked out the pubs, people will simply drink more faster or kick off the session earlier, maybe drink more in the house.

They wont ever combat this without simply shutting pubs IMO.

People love to get slaughtered, tis a way of life.

they should not have the licensing laws. "you can only buy booze at this time". i wanna buy it when i want thank u very much. it's like other euro countries - people can then leave the pubs when they want - and the establishments can have their own closing times. instead - here - everyone knocks it back for 5 hours knowing they've got to get a taxi at 11:30 to go home.
