Am looking to buy 2 externals when i get paid next, 1 to back up and one to double back up all my music / data etc.
I have had nothing but bad luck in the past with them. Have had maxtor, seagate, toshiba, and a hitatchi one. everyone has fucked.
Does anyone know any good / reliable brands to go for, i dont mind paying the a few extra ££ for something reliable and good quality.
Have spied a few Samsung ones online, was considering going for one of those with being a decent make??

Any help on this would be appreciated, cheers hutch :)

I've always had Nothing but positive experiences with Western Digital drives. I'm using an Iomega drive at the minute and so far (touch wood) it's held up fine. Stay away from LaCie every single one of these ive ever had contact with in the studios ive worked in, and my own personal ones, have failed miserably!

Ultimately whatever you buy is going to fail at some point but I'd highly reccomend WD from my experience ;)

ALL of them go eventually, but ill second the WD vote, I have a WDLive hub 1TB, 2x Passports and a 1TB Mybook, all about 2/3 years old now and still no issues. the hub failed once but was swapped out issue free.

Can deffo vouch for the WD drives. I've had one of the MyBook ones for about 4-5 years, ran out of space on it though, hence the Iomega drive i'm using. I would have bought another WD one but I was a bit strapped at the time and the Iomega was the cheapest 1tb available. So far so good though.

Think I'm gona have to buy a new 2tb + soon though to back them both up onto as I think i'm pushing my luck :-p

USB powered have less to go wrong with them, but your restricted to capacity of about 1TB, also take into consideration the read/write speed of the drives IF speed is important to you.

Sound, 2x 750gb ones should be fine a think. Write speed doesnt bother me to much.
Usb powered ones it is. Cheers :)
