Been looking into this al lot lately, & it's pretty worrying to be frank. Does anyone have any views on this?, if you even know anything about it that is. If you don't I highly recommend you watch the video below.

GM crop grant planted in UK: Britons wary

http://www.rt.com/news/gm-uk-genetically-modified-claims-221/Found this posted today on RT. -
UK scientists have received a US$10 million grant for research into GM crops in one of the biggest investments in the field. The British public remains skeptical of GM foods, a recent report suggesting they pose both environmental and health threats.

    Whats worse?

Genetically modified crops carefully created by well educated scientists using technologically advanced equipment and tested for quality assurance
    OR...
Pills manufactured by an uneducated person smoking a tab in an garage using industrial chemicals and used coke bottles?

Sooner or later some genetically engineered synthetic organism is going to be created that has unintended disastrous consequences. Once a new life form is created it can't be controlled or un-created. It's just a matter of time.

But we are creating organisms that could never exist in nature, combining genes from wildly dissimilar life forms, ones that could never arise from mutation. It only takes one mistake and we could have a catastrophe.

Like what? Genetics is very carefully regulated. I'm not aware of anyone creating lifeforms

Very interesting video. Had not seen that before. However, still cant get excited about it. Cells are manipulated for medical needs all the time. For example, mammailian based biopharmaceuticals are created by putting DNA into a host cell and injecting it into an animal - the organs of that animals offspring are then collected, mashed up and the required antibodies extracted. The antibodies are then placed into a growth medium to mass produce the drug.

I think we should stop all this nonsense by supporting the GM crops. we'll need it soon enough - if the population keeps rising as it is, it's going to get to the point where we need food to grow quickly in our climate and be resistant to the pests our country holds. otherwise there will be a worldwide famine (in the rather distant future).....

....and we'll all die. (in theory)

GM Livestock however is a different kettle of sheep. feel a bit differently about that, slightly cruel - but in the end i think we'll have to breed tank sized cow's and corsa sized pigs to be able to keep the world going.

i think this country need's to become less dependant on imported foodstuff and grow everything here, Genetically modified and pumped full of chemicals, rock on!

*first actual decent post i've done for bloody months*

Its only different because you view crops as simple organisms compared to animals. In reality both require only simple modifications to the DNA entering a cell in order to produce a mutation.

aye, but the fact that animals look at you and moo occasionally makes you think your risking the pain of an animal for the good of mankind.

Only exception being chickens, i fucking hate chickens.

how long before the pests become able to counteract the GM pest resistant crops? As George Carlin said 'the planet's not fucked, the planet will take care of itself. It's the human race that's fucked'
