Decent effort for your first attempt mate, much better than some of my early efforts without a doubt Like you say i think the biggest thing i would look at is the kick, as going for the type of sound you seem to be after something a lot more punchy would make a huge difference IMO Definitely stick with it though and if you find that ableton as a software works for you then keep on with it as well, everyone has their preferences on which is best to use etc though its just really about getting something that works for you and ableton seems to have done the trick
