    No win, no fee

Just heard on the news, the money paid out by these ambulance chasers in the last year would pay the wages for 22,000 nurses! We've got a lot to thank the yanks for.... Oh cool, Frasier's on:rolleyes: :D

but in most cases the money comes from the person at fault's insurance?
either way the money that is handed out wouldnt've been available to the nursing.
that's like saying the money spent on smoking last year would pay for everyone in the uk to get free bread?

What gets me is cases like tony martins, where someone baltantly in the wrong somehow sues for a shitload of cash and gets away with it.

OK, i'm agreed with you there. (Typical tabloid style headlining shocking people easily. Me being one of them.) The government will still get hold of some of it in the long run though.

The government is clamping down on these compensation claims esp those "trip on the pavement, get thousands of pounds type ones". Those companies who actively encourage you to claim are going to be more closely regulated. People need to accept more that some things are just accidents

I know, its quite sad really. There was reports of a school stopping children having snowball fights in fear of someone having an accident and a claim being made against them

Most car and home insurance policies have legal cover included for injury so most people wouldn't need to use the no win no fee companies. If you have a decnt insurance policy you don't need to use the accident group et al. I don't think a lot of people actually realise they're already paying for the service that those companies provide.

so if the council does not maintain a pavement, which they have the responsibility to do, and a 80yr old woman trips and breaks both her hips and an arm, u don't think that this person deserves compensation for her injuries? injuries which were caused by sum1 else's failure to do a job which they are responsible for?

there are a lot of claims out there that are bogus or exaggerated, however people are still entitled to compensation if they suffer harm or injury and its sum1 elses fault. sayin "accidents happen" is all well and good but a lot of these accidents shouldn't happen, and if it takes a blame and claim culture to get companies and councils to do something about it and make sure the roads and pavements are safe to walk on then so be it. maybe then 80 yr old mrs jones wouldn't receive injuries which could've been avoided by simply replacing a flagstone.

Councils spend around 3 times on compensating people who've tripped on pavements than they do on maintaining the pavements themselves. I agree that there are times when people should be compensated but there's something wrong somewhere.
How many times do people claim for whiplash in a car accident when they haven't really got it. People just see it as a chance to get a few thousand pounds

I've gotta admit, first thing i'd do after a car crash is 'develop' neck pains and head off to the doctor. Probably wouldn't think to sue the council if i tripped, i don't even pay council tax.

like i said there are a lot of bogus and exaggerated claims out there, bein honest i wrote a few up myself when i worked for a personal injury company, however these people who make these claims shouldn't have an effect on people with genuine claims. there's plenty of people make bogus theft claims on house insurance too.

also, if the council spent more money on maintenance they wouldn't be payin out so much in compen claims.

Think the worst one is sueing doctors. Fair enough if a mistake is made that could have been avoided but they're humans at the end of the day, they're gonna make mistakes just like everyone else does at their jobs
