    Something New...

So - everyone's gutted about us losing our favourite night - Why doesn't someone do something about it?

Vuzz - Let's get it going again... there's gotta be a market for it now on a weekend... People don't have a choice!

Twisted - Mick/Jim - What about monthly weekend parties?

i don't think foundation would consider another night like Promise - no-one would DARE try and compare to what success it's had - BUT a smaller night at a smaller club would probably work... Mono was good - Vuzz was ticking over, wasn't it?

What other options are there in Newcastle? Surley someone off this board has some ideas? All you people shouting 'LOCAL TALENT' - well - Let's get some ideas together.

The Man of Science MAY even come out of retirement to grace the 1's and 2's (thats what we called them in my day..) - thats BOUND to get the punter flowing - what an offer!!!!! Chooo Chooo!

So - What do people think?

i think one of the nights should definately go for it, i think what they were doing in the first place by booking the odd guest dj was good, only problem was that they had promise to compete with, now with their being a big hole for trance in the northeast i think things could work, i cant see a problem with them moving to foundation if the night get more popular either

i can't see foundation working - Promise was BIG and even it hasn't managed to keep going... smaller would work to cater for what seems to be the smaller target audience out there..

i think it's a great idea - no doubt the twisted lads have already thought about it. definately think the potential is there just hope somebody gives it a go, it'd be well worth it with there not being a major trance night in town anymore

Great idea.... 500 capacity venue, some well known and respected UK jocks to get people turning up, and hopefully a music policy and dj policy that has people turning up not JUST for the DJs being booked.

The Market IS there .... all it takes is a few individuals willing to take the risk and put the effort in.

Ive said it before, but in london theres things like fanciulli doing his "fandango" night in room 2 of turnmills, while in room one they tend to brand the night with names like ¢¥rock da world' for when timo maas is on ..... that way you get a feel for the music you can expect, instead of going on JUST the DJ names, since... lets face it, not everyone knows all the dj¢¥s and what they play.

So how about putting it in the hands of some of the smaller nights for back room events ..... give the local jocks the chance to mess around for a bar type crowd.... some variation is lacking.

Newcastle is lacking in a crowd that trusts the promoters to put the right acts on, and just looks for dj names instead..... at least a crowd bigger than 1000. Maybe its just time to cater to a smaller crowd and start up again...... from what ive seen, thats the nature of clubland ... nothing ever dies, things just move on and change.

I'd love to see it happen. I agree possibly a bit smaller than foundation but it would have to have some size to it. I'd be gutted if the future of trance in Newcastle lay in the basement at the Stout Fiddler.

i think its a mint idea

i was pretty gutted when Vuzz went the journey, i thought it was mint + they managed to get some decent names on (Ronski Speed, M, Helsoot (sp), Ben lost, Riley & Durrant etc..) as well as putting local talent on. But it always seemed to be the same faces in there.

Twisted on a weekend would be awesome, they too have decent djs on but its just finding a venue.

I don't know how these nights don't pull more ppl in though, they both have (had) drinks offers and very reasonable entry fees its just a shame that not many ppl go. But with promise comin to an end ppl won't have any other option if they still want decent tunes in n/castle.

    something must be done

I think the the main problem with running a night these days, is peoples musical appetite is a lot greater than it was a few years ago, people want different music everytime they go out. basically I feel to run a succesful night nowadays you have to put on a vast array of musical genre to keep people interested.

theres plenty of venues - WHQ for one, .... etc.

I dont think its as easy as having the DJ¢¥s and drinks promotions on though. Theres alot of work to be done in creating a brand or an image that people can at least get behind. The venue, the sponsorship (yep, more important these days), the look, the feel.... Newcastle has a very fickle crowd that likes to think its more important than it is (being analytical here) .... you arent going to get the self obsessed hair dresser crowds turning up to a bar basement no matter who is on.

... people like to think they are going somewhere special, being around other people who think likewise, and want to brag to their mates about it.

... crasher did it, cream did it, ministry did it, fabric is doing it.

.... Judge jules playing on a gemini cd deck on a tressle table upstairs at the cooperage ISNT gonna do it.

I think thats what separates the decent promoters from the ones who truly make it big.

I think that the main difference seperating nights like Twisted and Vuzz from a one like Promise is the fact that they are essentially bars and not clubs. If you want a club night it needs to be in a club and not bars.

I've had some good nights at Vuzz and Twisted and will continue to go, but it hasn't got the same feel as a club. For the average person to make the effort to go to a club night it needs to be in a fairly large venue with a decent dance floor and lazers/lights to make it look different. Somewhere where you can go and get fucked rather than stand and drink and some established good names on to pull the crowd that have been going to Promise for years. People aren't just going to stop going. There are going to be absolutely shit loads of clubbers who like Trance in Newcastle waiting for a night to pop up and I'm sure a lot of people on here would be willing to help advertise get the word out. (¬)

I reckon a night with someone like Hardwick and a few others on in a proper club would have a chance of pulling a crowd. I hope someone has a shot at it.

hahaha that would be a good idea if Digital would let it go ahead. I think the place would be rammed and you could stop the pikeys coming in.
