    Wanted - Strikers

After watching that pile of crap, it shows what im sure most of us knew anyway.

With no Shearer and no Bellamy, we havent got a hope. Shola failed to hold the ball up once in 90 minutes. Viana never once carried the ball or dragged a defender or chased anything down.

Bobby needs to sign either Alan Smith or James Beattie in the transfer window. Both excellent players, though Smith is better technically. But Beattie gets more goals and isnt such a tosser.

Will funds be available though? What with no Champions league this season.

We're in the same boat mate.

Frustrating - no1 to get the goals regular really.

Stewart and Kyle will get the odd 1 here n there...as will few of the mifield lads (and our keeper - lol!) but we NEED 1 or 2 proven goalscorers..

Im not a Newcastle fan and i dont claim to know a lot about football, but from what i saw of the match today, a new striker wouldnt improve much if your getting pissed on all over the park

Im not having a go, just saying that people usually seem to blame strikers when teams arent doing so well:)

True, you dont know a lot. ;)

I am not someone who just blames strikers. There is a genuine problem. Newcastle only have two strikers of Premiership class. When one is out its bad enough. When its two, god help us!

When i say we need decent strikers, im not talking about the goalscoring aspect. Im meaning all round play, holding the ball up, dragging defenders, providing some attacking threat. It means the whole game isnt played in your own half, and your opponents heve to be more cautious, instead of pouring forward and scoring 5!

My point really is that when Shearer and Bellamy play, we spend much more time causing the opposition problems. If the ball is played to Shearer, it sticks, we retain possesion. Everyone can play higher up the pitch. If its played to Bellamy, his first touch goes into the space and then he carries it, drags defenders, moves us forwars as a team. He is also easy to find in the first place because is movement is good.

If it is played to Ameobi, it bounces off, the opposition picks up the ball and were under pressure again. Viana isnt a striker, which again shows that someone is needed who can play up there!

I think up front is the most obvious place where the squad is deficient.

Still the defence wasnt exactly good today

Smith only scores goals on Champ manager, mind you we could get him for £50.

Must agree with the main point that yous need a front man. Kluivert would be perfect but as the spence says it's been going on a long time.

It all comes down to money and availability of the players.

As for our strike force - Larsson's contract is up in the summer and Hartson has been linked with a move down south  :(

i could take last weekend as an opportunity to gloat and poke fun at a few teams particularly woeful results.

however instead i will bask in the glory of a well earned boro away win, and the bhoys mauling of the pars.

    that is all, athanku. :D

Newcastle do tend to rely on Shearer too much IMO.:)
They need someone like James Beattie in they're side.
Even someone like Dwight Yorke would make a difference playing up front for Newcastle at the moment.
