little kids on the streets usually don't know much else and don't think about what they're doing...

these allegedly 'educated' little pricks sit on their pc day in day out purposefully creating viruses that can cause no end of unnecessary damage and annoyance...

as for the rapist comment, you're a fucking joke screech.

    If you say so!!

That was purely an example as I saw it on the news the other day...how does that make me "a joke"

Im not sympathising with virus writers, they do cause trouble, and of course its annoying. Im saying, these two hardly deserve a jail term for it. It's not a patch on the actual really bad worms.

Did their actions affect anyone on here? I cant even remember the name of the worm, hardly top 5 material is it.

According to the report, they are part of a wider network to create worms, which I wouldn't imagine they are doing for the greater good of anyone... so evidently they may have been fairly insignificant in the scheme of things but they clearly for no other purpose than cause criminal damage.. and so the punishment should fit...

Its the digital equivelant of someone 'keying' your car or smashing your wing mirror, it won't cause a vast amount of physical damage and may be relatively cheap to repair - tell that to the owner...

attempting to be so naive as to insinuate that the police are more bothered about computer hackers than 'rapists and murderers' is the most absurd comparison i've ever heard...

You are right can't argue with that. I'd go absolutley off my nut if someone keyed my car to be fair.

And surely you must know that I was exaggerating the police point....

But they do seem to waste so much time on this trivial stuff. Motorists for example.

Although has to be said, having your PC reboot is hardly the same as getting your car keyed.

I think a better comparison for their contribution would be knocky nine doors

6 or 3 months seems fair.

It's a slap on the wrist, nothing more.

I'd imagine 2 months with good behaviour

but 2 months in jail for 2 geeks is definately going to teach them a lesson

    The sentence is too lenient.

People spreading viruses are sad pathetic little shits, probably with no social skills.

    No defence Screech.

They we're not spreading them as I understand it. Just creating them.

If people bothered updating their copies of windows there would be no virus outbreaks. 99% of infections are easily preventable with a few clicks of your mouse.

I blame the lazy users more than the viri creaters.

    (IMHO)

No, but that's a slightly different situation.

When people get viruses their pcs usually start attacking 100s of other pcs. That slows the internet down for everyone else and costs ISPs millions in bandwidth. It's not really the same with HIV to say the least.

I liken it more to people who drive their cars but don't keep the tyres in good repair. When they crash and wreck someone else's car they get in serious trouble because they’ve failed to prevent the accident.

Enough of these very vague analogies though...

You have to expect that people are going to write viruses if they can, you can't stop it by laws to inprison the perp's. You can however make those viruses totally useless by just updating your anti virus software and OS nightly (hardly rocket science is it). ISPs are already looking at switching off people's ADSL when their pcs get infected (plus net already does this).

In a world-wide always on network people are going to have to be held responsible for the actions of their PCs including if they are infected by some mal'ware. Laws are useless against the people who write viruses (most are never caught unless they show off about what they have written) and the only possible solution IMHO is legislation to penalise people who don't keep their connections to the tittynet safe and secure, just as you are penalised if you don't keep your car safe and secure.

All just my opinions though eh!... :)
