How is the world safer now than it was 50 years ago? Israel, India, Iran, Syria, China, North Korea, USA, UK, France, Germany etc all have nuclear weapons?

We have George Bush in power in the US and he clearly isnt affrad to use force to get what he wants, very similar to all tyrants.

I think the world is probably at it's must unstable for a long time.

50 years ago there were far more nuclear weapons.

The communist Soviet Union empire was going head to head with the democratic capitalism of the United States, both had huge nuclear arsenals and on several occasions all out nuclear war was narrowly avoided.

This was all on the back of a nuclear bomb which had been used to destroy Hiroshima killing 70,000.

The expansion of Chinese communism resulted in the mass poverty of billions and the killings of millions.

Nationalism was the theme of the day and psuedo-science had been applied to racial models to prove ethnic superiority... The same science was then applied to Jewish problem - slaughtering millions of Jews in an industrial killing machine.

Science had introduced the world to the most grotesque chemical weapons that man couldn't of foreseen in his worst nightmares.

The rise of modernism clashed with traditional cultures giving birth to freedom fighters, revolutionists and religious fundamentals.

All the problems you talk of today are the result of problems 50 years ago – when the climate was far more volatile… the world is in a relative state of stability at the present.

Swap Iran for USSR, Serbs for Jews and it sounds pretty much like the world is in a similar state.

How can you compare Iran, a country without nuclear capabilities, to a super power that had around 30,000 nuclear weapons (which later rose to over 45,000).

How can you compare the industrial industrial genocide of 6 million jews to the genocide of under 200,000 serbs? (which also isn't the present - it happened ages ago)

Iran didn't kill 6,000,000 jews though so his point is valid

and again and again until you get it .

I would say the world is safer now but it still has the potential to be very volatile and kick off .

The world has gradually become safer since the end of the cold war . Yes we still have the likes of china and north korea massing weapons but America has now downgraded its nuclear capabilities to deterants rather than a massive arsenal (or so they say anyway) and the ussr is no more . Those two superpowers would have destroyed halfd the globe in trying to destroy each other . You have to say now that this scenario is far less likley .

but were still mor dangerous now than we were at the turn of the last century even after ww1 . its only ww2 that kicked off the nuclear revolution !

my point was that the world was unstable 50 years ago and its still unstable now. We had the nazi party then Milosovic so who knows who's next. Its always going to be the same.

what are you wittering on about... to prove that world is as unstable as it was back then he said:

Iran replaces the USSR - Iran is not expanding its borders, Iran is not about to launch a nuclear attack on another superpower, Iran does not have 30,000 nuclear weapons.

He also said that the genocide of serbs was comparable to the Jewish Holocaust... when in reality it was a fraction of the destruction.

The world is vastly more stable than it was back then as I've already demonstrated... unless you can pick fault in the post Jambon was responding to - I doubt I'll respond to you again ;)

    THE WORLD IS MORE STABLE.

You're basing your argument on speculation... There's no need to base it on speculation as we can compare the threats of today to the threats of the past... And historically the world was far more vulnerable than it is today.

Either produce threats that equal those I posted up or bow out nobley ;)
