I'm sure Roberto d'Aubuisson thought el salvador's government was portrayed in a bad light oliver stones film... despite the tens of thousands of so called communists who "went missing".

I'm sure Ariel Sharons thinks his shoot first ask questions later policy is being portrayed in a bad light on BBC's Newsnight...

And I'm sure you thought Paul Greengrass's portrayel of Bloody Sunday was a farce.

However these are all disgusting events that ahve happened, why the fuck shouldn't the BBC air these programs?!?!?!? Are you saying we should turn a blind eye?

Yes the BBC are cashing in, however what these thugs did was disgusting and I can't see how you can possibly defend them :D

Although this might cause unrest between certain people.....education is always going to be important because otherwise tragedies will continue to happening.

m not saying that education stops tragedies...but it certainly goes partway towards helping people understand the consequences their actions might have.

and if a BBC drama is going to help people go someway to understanding the conflict in Northern Ireland...maybe this'll in turn help ppl to go someway towards putting an end to it?

    nope.

from allowing something like this to happen in future: we have see how futile the fighting has been in Ireland.....so maybe one day ppl will learn their lesson that stupid fighting between religions is futile.

You honestly think a few tv shows can solve such complex problems.

I personally think your having a laugh - these aren't petty playground squables these are bloody religous wars - common sense tells people living in a peaceful country that such atrocities can be avoided with good honest christian courtesy...

When your locked in conflict things aren't quite as black and white... This program will do fuck all to educate or inform... It should hopefully portray an accurate account of a sickening story.

ah joe, i'm not defending what happened in north belfast at all, on the contrary, i'm apprehensive of the BBC's dramatisation of it, and the general steriotypes that these programs produce. i fear this is just another in a long list.

i would like to see it doing that too, but i think artisitic license will be used to make it more of a 'show' for the public, heroes and villans.

If it was an accurate account of what happened (Which would undoubtly be in the republicans favour) would you have a problem with it?

grrr i never said that tv shows can help solve complex problems like these!!

and no: when in conflict things arent so black and white.

but: in order for future generations to make some attempt at living in a relatively peaceful world they need to be educated now about atrocities such as the holocaust, hiroshima and conflicts in places like Northern Ireland.

then at least ppl will understand what went wrong and how futile it is.

Im not syaing tv or eduaction will solve anything: but it helps to 'warn' ppl of the dangers of things getting stupidly out of hand....which is no bad thing really is it??

no i wouldn't, but then would there be an account of the ethnic cleansing happening in the tigers bay area were old age pensioners are being stoned out of there homes of 60 years by republican youths, or the story of the protestant schoolboy killed by a republican who ran him over coz he was in a rangers shirt, then reversed and hit him again, or the story of a young british soldier of 19 who got lost from his patrol in belfast and was attacked by republican mothers who scraped the skin off his face with their nails and then called for a provo to come and shoot him with his own gun.

these incidents are never dramatised but also happen.........the republican cause has more of a triumph against the odds story to it, and it sells in america.............if northern ireland was treated unbiasedly on tv then i would have no trouble with it..........but it just isn't.
