Well they must have been having an off-day when I went to the US. And my m8's. And Ness and lulu ;)

Airports are slow enough without there being a system that checks everyone's history in real-time for something as minor as a police caution. Unless they have reason to believe a person is lying why would they check?

Boy George got denied a visa too. If you've got any drug related arrests on your record, probably best not to say anything as you'll immediately get denied for a visa as America refuses entry to "narcotics addicts or abusers and drug traffickers". Unless maybe it was ages ago (like 10+ years) and you have a clean record since, or have family there.

remember the automatic number plate recognition cameras set up all over the country to 'combat driving without tax and insurance'
well within 5 years it is to become a system that photographs you and remembers your number plate and places your movements on a national data base which is stored for 5 years and can be accessed routinely by any police force or other government agencies and local authorities. It will pinpoint the precise time and location of 50 million number plates a day.
They have converted thousands of ordinary CCTV cameras to collect number plate data as well as what they normally do. Mobile cameras have also been installed in unmarked cars parked at the side of the road and in helicopters that can read number plates from nearly half a mile away.

If any democratic country had proposed setting up such a system to spy on ordinary people going about their own business even 10 years ago there would have been a massive outcry. Doing it a bit at a time they get away with it. We will soon be worse than the old East Germany and the Stasi

there's still 1.1million uninsured drivers on the road at the moment - why haven't they been nicked then if they track their every movement?!

OR even better - do the rozzas work for them - check all your neighbours cars! http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx

at the heart of ANY system like this, are techies running it. and you know what? they're downloading games, playing WoW and discussing star wars rather than making sure it runs properly.

the thing about these systems is that they are automatic. Stuff just sits there until the council or the government wants to retrieve it. God help us if we ever get a facist government like Berlesconi's in Italy, no political protest would last 5 minutes, they would have everybodies whereabouts, phone contacts, web usage, emails for 5 years previous just sitting there waiting to incriminate them. I bet I could build a convincing case against anyone on this board with that info.
