Repharm anti comdown kits..

I've found plenty saying that over-doing SSRIs (e.g. prozac) which inhibit the reuptake of serotonin, and 5-htp, which boosts the production can cause serotonin syndrome, i.e. too much serotonin.

Like you say SJW is also a mild SSRI so could be dangerous with 5-htp, but looks like you'd have to be taking quite large doses of both to get the serotonin syndrome.

Wondering if it's ok to take ST. John's Wort and 5-HTP?
Though the net effect of taking St. John's wort and 5-HTP may be the same, if taken together SJW and 5-HTP are even more effective. St. John's wort is a SSRI, a Serotonin reuptake inhibitor, (Actually SJW inhibits the reuptake of all three feel-good neurotransmitters: serotonin, nor-epinephrine, and dopamine) but 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin. What this means is that your body breaks 5-HTP down (in the neurons) into serotonin, the very chemical that St. John's wort manipulates to help you feel happier, calmer . . . The metaphor being; if you were an automobile you would be filling up your gas tank with 5-HTP, at which time the St. John's wort takes over, acting like a carburetor; instructing the serotonin where to (or in this case where not to) go. So, in essence, taking SJW and 5-HTP creates a synergy (1+1=3). Most studies were conducted using a dose of 50-100 mg. three times per day. Obesity patients 20 minutes before meals. The onset of action is fairly rapid, (3 to 5 days)

Just stick to 5htp. I've heard too many people say Seratonin Syndrome after others have asked about Wort to advise otherwise, and it's the last thing I want or I'd want anyone else I know to have.

1. serotonin syndrome doesn't make you depressed, it's an overabundance of serotonin which makes you very ill and can kill.

2. SJW doesn't stimulate release of serotonin, it inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin that is produced.

3. 5htp is a precursor to the production of serotonin.

So as far as i can tell the problems happen when you're producing too much serotonin, from pills or 5htp, and also taking stuff, prozac or SJW, that inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin so you end up with loads of the stuff sloshing round.

If you're gonna dispense drug advice make sure you're 100% sure of the facts!

I'll get it to you tonight if I can but I read 3 websites, 1 erowid I'm sure, that said taking E then taking St Johns Wort the following day(s) to combat comedowns will make you feel happier but is quite dangerous with regard to Seratonin Syndrome.

I'm not saying Wort on it's own gives you SS.

In my experience, 5htp doesn't necessarily make you feel happy like Wort supposedly does, but it gives you back what is taken away that makes you depressed, as you know.

**And another thing, pills don't produce seratonin they release it.
